BMW is reportedly preparing the introduction of an all-new 8-Series Coupe flagship that would take on the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the recently announced Bentley Continental GT.
According to Autocar via its reliable sources inside the company, BMW is preparing a concept set for a 2018 launch, which will eventually lead the way for the future BMW 8-Series Coupe.
More than that, the good news was also confirmed by BMW CEO Harald Kruger, who told Autocar that the company is pending between a two-door coupe or a four-door coupe. The latter possibility might seem to be the perfect choice for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.
In case BMW 8-Series will be decided as a four-door coupe, the model will be more luxurious and “nobler in appearance.”
The same Autocar also reports that the BMW 8-Series Coupe would also underpin the CLAR platform, the same one found underneath the new 2016 BMW 7-Series. Once it will be decided for production, the model will be built at the carmaker`s plant in Dingolfing, Germany, starting 2020.
BMW has first revealed its intentions of launching a more luxurious model than the 7-Series back in 2013, when it officially unveiled the Gran Lusso Coupe Concept during the Concorso d`Eleganza Villa d`Este. We should expect fresh details with the BMW`s decision of launching an 8-Series Coupe in the upcoming years!
